Another option with ProteXXion^® is for the scanned object itself to be used as the data medium for the coded scan data. With this variant, the data obtained in the primary scan is not stored in a database after mathematical compression but instead is stored on the scanned object, for instance in the form of a two-dimensional barcode or through a RFID chip. The surface structure and data set here again form a unique inseparable pair that verifies the authenticity of the object. Only a re-scan of the original object delivers precisely the data that corresponds to that in the data set and thus confirms that the object is authentic. The process therefore offers the same security as the database solutions. In this way any packaging can be investigated at any time to establish whether it is the original packaging or a counterfeit.
