Authentication solutions
Database-supported authenticity checks
Scenario 3: Object = marking + comparative data storage
Another option with ProteXXion® is for the scanned object itself to be used as the data medium for the coded scan data. With this variant, the data obtained in the primary scan is not stored in a database after mathematical compression but instead is stored on the scanned object, for instance in the form of a two-dimensional barcode or through a RFID chip. The surface structure and data set here again form a unique inseparable pair that verifies the authenticity of the object. Only a re-scan of the original object delivers precisely the data that corresponds to that in the data set and thus confirms that the object is authentic. The process therefore offers the same security as the database solutions. In this way any packaging can be investigated at any time to establish whether it is the original packaging or a counterfeit.

The same applies to media for software or music, or other highvalue consumer goods such as watches, jewelry or cameras. Hand-held scanners can be used to check goods and products quickly and simply at the premises of wholesalers and individual dealers.
In such cases the customer only needs one hand-held scanner for the authentication process. Bayer Technology Services offers these on a purchase or leasing basis and additionally makes a single charge for each primary scan of an object. All subsequent authentication scans are free.
